Introducing PALO: Eastern Gear’s First AMR 🚀

Hello! Welcome to Eastern Gear 😊

Today, we are excited to introduce the first AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot) developed under our very own robotics brand, PALO!

🚀 Introducing Eastern Gear’s First AMR at 2024 RoboWorld!

Eastern Gear has been working hard on the development and production of AMRs, and we’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be showcasing our AMR prototype at the upcoming 2024 RoboWorld exhibition!

📅 Come Visit Us at RoboWorld 2024:

📍 Location: KAIST Pavilion, Booth E10-10

🏢 Company: Eastern Gear

If you visit our booth, you can see a live demonstration of our AMR in action. We’d love for you to stop by and check it out!

⚙️ The Story Behind the Development of Our AMR

Before creating our AMR, Eastern Gear first developed a high-power gear set specifically for AMR applications. The performance of our globoid worm gear is determined by various parameters like the worm pitch diameter, axial lead, lead angle, and normal module. To determine the optimal parameters for high-power output, we ran numerous mesh tests and simulations.

📌 Key Features of Our AMR Gear Development:

1️⃣ Self-Locking Function

One critical feature we developed is the self-locking function, which prevents reverse rotation at the output shaft. This is essential for logistics robots, as reverse rotation during transport could lead to accidents. Since our AMR is designed to carry heavy loads, the reverse rotation prevention feature is vital for safety. To achieve this, we conducted multiple simulations to find the best gear design for implementing self-locking.

2️⃣ Optimal Machining Code Development

Using HyperMill, we simulated the machining process and fine-tuned the code to ensure precision manufacturing with 5-axis machining equipment.

3️⃣ High-Strength Housing Development

The housing for the globoid worm gear must maintain extremely tight assembly tolerances (±0.05mm) to avoid any deviation in operation. We conducted 3D structural analysis to design a housing that could withstand heavy loads without distortion or cracking, ensuring the alignment of the gears remains intact.

4️⃣ Gearbox Design Through Structural Analysis

By optimizing our gearbox design through structural analysis, we finalized the engineering drawings. The worm shaft and wheel centers are managed with tolerances of ±0.02mm, ensuring precision in concentricity and perpendicularity throughout the process.

With these development stages complete, the final AMR was built after integrating all the necessary components, control libraries, and software.
